How many web pages do you think actually exist on the Internet?
61As far as I know, there is no way to figure out exactly how many web pages exist on the internet. However, when you go on an internet search engine (I'll use http://www.google.com for my examples) and type in a search, in the top right corner just above the links to the pages there is a note that will say "1-10 of about (insert number)." That is the approximate number of pages that mention your search word. Results include news stories, images, ads, book excerpts, etc.
It can be interesting to see just how many pages any range of topics might have about them.
Here is a random sampling:
1. meat sliver ~374,000
2. text message ~23,200,000
3. prescription medication ~3,170,000
4. Kim Kardashian (celebutante) ~8,150,000
5. Kim Kardashian's butt ~1,070,000
6. e=mc2 (Einstein's theory of relativity) ~810,000
7. Mississippi River ~8,050,000
8. e-mail ~5,960,000,000
9. Greece ~253,000,000
10. grease ~36,100,000
Here is probably the closest you can possibly get to the totally number of web pages:
A search simply for the letter "a" results in ~20,950,000,000 hits.

There are a lot more then that.
I did a google search of the English Alphabet and got a result somewhere around 25.6 billion web *sites*. I also, as a side note, put "OR" in between each letter, and the search engine spit out every archived web site.
Searching for "www" in google returns about 35,680,000,000 result. Since this presumably includes all sites with www in the URL and there are many that don't then the number is many more than this.
